On Friday night lust a very successful concert was held hi aid ol tho laud to assist the wounded. The programme was l»ug and made longer by me eneores demanded lor- each item by the large and appreciative audience. Mr J. T. Belcher, president ol the local Patriotic Committee, occupied the chair, and during the proceedings made feeling reference to the death of Colonel Malone, and a mMiou ol sympathy with tho relatives ofthat gallant soldier, proposed by Mr Belcher, was adopted in silence. During the interval a cushion donated by Mrs iiowurth was ably auctioneered by Mill. Cottier, and the sum of £‘2o was cjuickly netted. Finally the cushion 101 lto Mi's Petersen for £l. The combined orchestra (Fgaiont Club and Mr C. H. -Rogers’) gave several selections, which were greatly appreciated. Songs were rendered by Mrs Massey (encored), Miss Fields, Mrs Green well (encored), and Mrs B. A. Belcher, and by tho following gentlemen; Mr Dunlop (encored), Mr Davis (encored), Mill owe (encored), Mr Hale and Xlapt. Wilson. Mr and Mrs Bogers contributed an instrumental duet (encored). Little lan Fergussoii and her little sister, Vera, in Highland costume, ‘‘were loudly applauded for then dancing to the accompaniment of the bagpipes (Mr Wade). Lieutenant Gray gave a hue exhibition of uub swinging. Two short farces were contributed by local amateurs, one by Mr and Mrs Howarth arid Mr C. O’Sullivan, and the other, entitled “That Boy Pete, ” I* Miss Mita Belcher, Miss Meripo Belcher, and Messrs G. Bogers, H. Marohant, D. O’Sullivan, A. Belcher, S. Ammor, and ®. J. Howarth.
The thanks of Cardiff people as a whole and of the Patriotic Committee in particular are due-to the members of the Egmont Orchestra and to Mr C. H. lingers and the Misses Rogers, also to the other ladies and gentlemen of Stratford who provided such an excellent programme. Mr E. Jackson, Mr A. J. Davey and Mr George Hall rendered excellent service in bringing so many to the function. A dunce followed the concert, and Mr C. Rogers and the Misses, Rogers generously stayed and contri- 1 bated the dance music. The proceedings terminated about 2 a.m. The net proceeds of the entertainment are about Til). Thus about £3O will be added to the Patriotic Funds. Those to whom the cushion wasj knocked down are as follows (several had it “knocked down” to them on more than one occasion): —W.
