THE FIRE BRICADE'S FUNCTION.
'A i! gobd day's amusement is predicted'for *the Stratford residents by the Vohihteer Fire Brigade's "hard-up" fancy dress masked social to be held on Thursday, September 9. Owing to numerous requests the committee have ueMdfed to' ask those participating at the evening function to wear masks. The programme arranged for the afternoon is a very attractive one. A procession will leave the Fire Brigade Station at 1.30 o'clock for Victoria Park, where it is hoped the residents of Stratford and surrounding districts will be in attendance. A strong ladies' committee have arranged an.afternoon te;> tent on the grounds. The main items of the afternoon will be the fancy dress hockey and football matches. There will be plenty of amusement for all, among which,the, following atetractions may be mentioned :' Children's races, the burlesque wild man, hooplas, Jack Johnsons, cocoanut shies, and pillow fights. Before the commencement of the social, a grand torch-light procession and the "burning of the Kaiser" will take place. The money raised by this effort is to be devoted to the Fiii> Brigade Demonstration Fund to buy trophies and prizes. and entertain firemen who will visit Stratford for the bi-an-iiu'ai 'demonstration of the Taranaki United Fire Brigade Association to be held here early in February of next yea r.
