A French battleship and two cruisers, with destroyers, mine-sweepers, and an aeroplane ship, bombarded Sighajk, and destroyed the customs office and part of the fortifications. Next day they bombarded Scalo Nova, while the cruiser destroyed the village of Spelia. used as a revictualling base for enemv submarines.

There are 'protests at the delay in the publication of Sir I<in Hamilton's despatch, dated .lime 12. It is pointed out that many officers and men have since been killed. and their names doubtless required checking, but this might have been accomplished in less than two months. Colonel Charles Ryan is now convalescent after a severe attack of dysentery, and will return to the Dardanelles at the earliest possible opportunity.
