FOOTBALL.
SENIOR OHAMPIONSHIP. HAWERA DEFEATS TUKAPA. There was a large attendance at the Show Grounds yesterday afternoon to witness Hawera and Tukapa to- conclusions for the Taranaki senior championship. In the first spell Hawera I scored sis points, while their opponents did not got over the goal line. I The second half was very willing., only three points being registered by Tukapa on the call of) time. The following were the teams:—
Tukapa (blue and black}—Full-back, X. Paterson; three-quarters, Ryder, .Martin, Coutts; five-eighths, Loveridge, Man a ; half, Skipper; forwards. Fuller, Perry. Waka, J. Skipper. Ward. Broughton, Carroll, Early. Hawera black and gold)—Full-back, Tan ; three-quarters, George, Jack Robertson, Wills; five eighths, Toomey; half, Clout; forwards, Barry, Colman, Whittington, Johnstone. Jim Robertson, Pokere, West, Finn, and Spratt. lleferee: Mj W. Roch.
Tukapa won tho toss, and the first incident of real moment occurred when Tukapa were awarded . a free-kiok, and from half-way Loveridge just missed putting the ball over the bur. Tho ball was taken straight down the field and Hawera were allowed a freekick practically on the goal line. Paterson found the line with a kick. A lot of mid-field work was indulged in. Loveridge took a kick from a mark and had hard luck in not getting a goal, the ball missing by inches. Loveridge made a marvellous run up the field, but Tau saved in time. Tho ball was freely thrown about, and George secured and potted a goal, but the referee disallowed it as it touched one of the Tukapa men. After twenty-five minutes play Harry found the line and scored. Coleman took the kick, but missed by inches. Play had been going only a few minutes, when, after some loose play, West- secured and scored, although he was brought down on tho goal line. Paterson had a chance to force, but failed. Then Whittington took the ball from the throw-in and scored at the corner. Half-time was then called, U;o scores being—Hawera (3, Tukapa 0. When play started in the second half the ball was kicked straight down to tho Tukapa goal line, but nothing happened. This spell was very willingly contested, but it was not till just on tho call of time that Tukapa managed to score. Perry being instnii mental in registering a try. Hawera did not add to their score, iijid the final was 9—.'5.
