LOCAL AND GENERAL.
An Auckland Press Association telegram states :Notification has been sent, to nine hundred Aucklanders who have
enlisted to parade at 9 a.in. on August 18 and proceed to Trentham by the ■, noon train. The Mayor (Mr Gunson) says it is absolutely inconceivable that the Defence Department at this stage should order nine hundred men to-pro-ceed to Trentham for- training, and it is more than ever difficult to understand, in view of the fact that the Royal Commission has not completed its investigations. He, wired the Minister of Defence asking if the report is correct; if so, in view of the recent conditions and present investigation, do you think it a right course to direct these men to go to Trentham; amkyin view of the large number, of men directed to leave Auckland and the large’ additional number required in future, will you consider forthwith tlie establishing of a camp in the Auckland district in accordance with the Triple Minister’s recent indication.
