AUSTRIANS DEMORALISED. Milan. August 3. The Italian artillery rapidly advanced, and successfully commenced an attack on the second Austrian line from Rubbria to Pretrarossa, with extraordinary captures daily of Austrian officers, who declare this is due to the demoralisation of the men, who become panic-stricken at the terrific artillery lire and abandon their officers, enabling the Italian infantry by forward dashes to effect the captures. The Italian advance, forming a wedge between Gorizia and Tolmino, is causing concern, and is rendering the railway useless to the Austrians. SUCCESS OF ITALIAN TACTICS. London, August 3, The Daily Chronicle's correspondent at Rome says that the fall of either the Tarvis fortifications or those at Tolmino and Goriziawill result in the whole Austrian defence from Carnia to the Adriatic collapsing. If Goriz.ia falls the Austrians must wheel eastward, with their right wing under cover of the Tarvis forts, and make their stand at the Idris river and Save river. If Tarvis falls they must retreat to the Drevo. in order to block the Vienna road, with the Austrians operating in the middle and lower rounded.
The Lombard Alpini. who conquered the spurs of Mont Piccolo, have turned out the enemy neck and crop from the vast earthworks at Enrongkop, and also the Austrian left wing at Mall/orgheto. The Italians feinted a forward movement on Rushintzs, and the Austrians immediately sent reinforcements to Rushnitz. Italian big guns opened a furious bombardment, ploughing up the trenches at Foroella and Dieiaulot, while the long range artillery prevented the reinforcements from returning. The Alpini then seized Mt. Granuda, and after a lierce fontal attack captured Forcella and Dicianalot. They took prisoner 107 and havonetted the rest.
