; WOMAN BURNED TO DEATH. I United Press Association. , Wellington,.August 2. I A Maori woman named Ngawine Ranginui, who lived fourteen miles from Manakau. was fatally burnt last Monday through her clothes accidentally catching firo.

AN ASHBURTON LIST, Ashburton, .July 31. Four accident cases were admitted to Ashburton County Hospital between last evening and this afternoon. The first was that of William Pearson,

aged about 30 years, employed as tip engine-driver. He was sharpening (some knives, when he fell over them, 'and badly injured three lingers on his {right hand, two being partially amputated.

i Bertram Healey, of Dromore, was (walking over the railway line, near Dromore Station, when ho tripped up, 1 fracturing a small bone on the lower 'part of the left leg.

I William Brady, aged 36 years, was ploughing at Maronan. He was standing on the plough, which gave a jolt, and he was pitched backwards on to a spike. His back has been hurt, hut his exact injuries are not yet .ascertained.

i This morning, Mrs Bell, of Lynford (Hinds), was, with the assistance of her little girl, unharnessing a horse in a trap ire Ashburton. When one trace only had been loosed, the horse walked forward and knocked Mrs 801 l down, the vehicle passing over her. —*"> TRAM ACCIDENTS. Wellington, August 1. Two tram accidents occurred” in the city on Saturday night. The victim of the first of these, which ended fatally, was a man. about 50 years of age, and apparently, a laborer. He was hit by a tramcar, near Courtenay Place terminus, about 8.30 p.m., and thrown on his hark. He was taken to the hospital with a fractured skull. He was operated upon, and died at two o’clock this morning. The victim lias not yet been identified. The second accident also occurred in Courtenay Place. Trooper William Chambers, belonging to Waikanao camp, was knocked down by a tram, and sustained a slight concussion. Ho was taken to the hospital, where ho is progressing favoidably.
