FARMERS’ UNION.
FURTHER REMITS CARRIED. Puit PitEBB ASSOCIATION. Wellington, July 31,. At the Farmers’ T'nion to-day. remits carried included the following: —“That in all the Government Conferences in future on matters vitally affecting farmers’ interests the Farmers’ Union he requested to send representatives to Wellington.” ‘ ‘That the freezing companies he circularised asking them (1) to reconsider the t) per cent, allowance for cooling and (2) to assist the Farmers’ Union in securing the abolition in London ol the allowance of 2lh on mutton and llh on lamh.”
On the motion of Mr J. A. Millar (Hawke’s Hay), a motion was carried, protesting against the action ol the Government in refusing to purchase sheep over ,Bolh. “That where an employer has insured his employees in any reputable accident office, in the joint names ol mortgagor and mortgagee, sub-sec-tion -I and 5 of section -I ol the Workers Compensation tor Assidents Act. 1908, should not apply.” “That in consequence of the great damage done to crops by rooks and crows the Government be approached with a view to having the protection removed if the local bodies think fit.” Mr K. Maxwell (Taranaki) moved; “That it is the opinion of the conference that a dominion register should he forthwith compiled, so that absolute knowledge as to our resources in men, etc., shall he immediately available.” The motion was carried unanimously. | A motion was carried, urging the Government that, il the purchase ol ! meat were continued next season, the meat be taken at an agreed upon price “on the hooks” at the factories, and paid for within one month from the date of killing.
