Australia Day evoked unprecedented enthusiasm. The weather remained line. The streets were brilliantly decorated, and lined with stalls, orchestras, concert platforms, and other money-making devices. I nbounded optimism prevailed in the crowded thoroughfares. The military procession included wounded heroes who had a great reception. The same carnival spirit is reported from other cities. An impressive intercession service in the cathedral was thronged. The city collections reached £'850,000. (Received 9.40 a.m.) .Melbourne, duly 31.
