(limner (). W. (Whit.) Priest, who was wounded at the. .Dardanelles, was for some years living with his parents at Inglewood. He was educated at the High School, Stratiord. Horn there he went to Palmerston North, joining the staff of Abraham and Williams, and remaining there until he enlisted for the front.
.Mr F. W. Court, who is leaving the Whangamomona district, was met by his late employees at a social evening on Thursday night last and presented with a handsome cigar case and illuminated address. The business friends of Mr Court also presented him with a gold-mounted fountain pen as a token of the regard in which he has always been held . -Mrs Court has also been the recipient of presents Irom the ladies of the township and a farewell afternoon tea was tendered her at Mrs Dean’s tea-rooms on Monday.
At yesterday’s meeting ol the laranaki Land Board it was resolved, on the motion of Mr J. Heslop, recoml-i od by Mr C. J. Ryan; “That on the occasion of the retirement of Mr James Mackenzie, 1.5.0., from the position of ITuler-Seeretary iur Lands, thereby severing his connection with the Public Service of the Dominion, after a continuous service of over IS years, the Laud Board of the district. of which he was formerly - or and chief surveyor, desires to congratulate him on completing so long and honorable service in the St*to and public interest, and to express their sinccrost wishes that he may yet continue to have many years of health and vigor to enjoy his well earned respite from active public duties. '
