FOOTBALL.

The Taranaki Rugby Union held its monthly meeting last night at Stratford in the Borough Chambers. There wore present Messrs Buchanan (chairman), HatTsen ; Fearon, Masters and Skoghmd.

Regarding the protest from the Kaponga Club against the playing of Peta in the 2nd Junior match ,Okaiawa wrote admitting that Peta was a first junior. The match was awarded to' Kaponga.

ReW.,Drinkwater. —It was resolved to send a copy of his own letter to Mr Roch and ask him if the contents thereof are correct. The Auckland Union wrote proposing matches with .Taranaki, the dates to be fixed. It was agreed to accept the- invitation for matches. Eltham Juniors protested against Stratford Juniors win last week. They claimed, that Stratford played senior players. After discussion, the protest was upheld, and the match awarded to Eltham.

THE BAYLY SCHOLARSHIP. Jlr R. Masters, as a sub-committee appointed to deal with the matter, suggested certain alterations in the with a view to creating greater competition. These were 1 n the direction of reducing the age limit, which will be the means of extending the scholarship, so that boys from country schools will have an equal chance of securing the scholarship; a reduction in the athletic standards to he in accord with reduced age of the hoys; alteration in the date from October to December on account of weather and the boys being more easily spared from school work. Mr Masters considered that the altered conditions will probably be. the means of securing about 80 competitors. The conditions of the Scholarship now are:—-1. That all the competitors must be under the age of 1-1 years on the Ist of December and open to all boys in public or primary schools. 2nd. That a pass in the Junior National Scholarship shall be the standard for the Education test. Old. That the following shall he the standard for athletic attainments: U)0 yards standard, 13 V secs; 410 yards standard, 70 secs; high jump, Oft Din; long .jump, Tift ; drop kick. M) yards, place, kick. 3 angles; punt, 3d yards. .Marks to’he 20'for all attaining the-standard in each event and the marks to be equal for each event, vi/,.. 20 tor IM, jij for 'j id, and d for 3rd. 4th. No compel itior to qualify unless lie gets GO marks for athletics, dth. That the competition be held on the 2nd 'J hnrsdav in December of each year.
