Stratford is threatened with an epidemic. of*measles in a mild form., ()| the children attending the publicschool, thirteen families are affected, seven of these being pupils in one room, the . teacher of which recently had an.enforced holiday of some weeks owing vto the complaint. It may be mentioned that immediately measles makes its appearance, all members-of the afflicted family are not allowed to attend school.
New Plymouth reports as follows! 'Justice Stringer held a sitting of,the Arbitration Court this morning; hut ingly one short formal , matter was brought before him.—A young man nemed H. H. Howell pleaded guilty in the Police Court in answer to a 'charge of attempt to defraud by means of a valueless cheque. He was remanded to the Supreme Court lor .sentence. On another similar charge he was remanded to Eltham. — Prospectuses are published for two new picture theatres here. i.
Advices received in Wellington by the Railway Department show that considerable trouble has been experienced as the result of the slips on the Main Trunk railway between Taihape and Te Kuiti. ibe position at present is—that ,Wednesday nigWc’ii Wellington-to-A ucklancl train and Thursday’s 9.10 train to Auckland are held up at Tauiuanmui, and Auckland’s midday and night trains and 'Thursday's trains are held up at Te Kuiti. To-night’s 9.10 train to Auckland lias been cancelled as also lias the Auckland midday train to Wellington. ,
