Midhirst Dairy Company paid out £'lß,olo last Saturday. This was for milk, supplied and bonuses.
Much has been beard of “Big Lizzie” and her guns at the Dardanelles. hut little has been heard of the Warspite, a sister ship to the Queen Elizabeth. A letter received from the late Sergeant Lee, of Eltham, states that the Warspite is also in evidence
with her 15-inchers, and has no doubt often been mistaken for the “Lizzie.”
A shooting match, between the Postal Staff and the Railway Staff resulted in awin.for the Railway by four points. Scores as follows: Postal Staff—Mulvey 61, Craddock 61, Pike 61, McLeod 56, Sbeahan 53, Kivell 48, Brookes 46. Total 386. Railway—Stewart 66, Peattio 62, Campbell 61, Johnson 57. Hansen 54. Murray 46, Beauchamp 14. Totql. 390. I ‘ The men in camp at Waikanae, when visited by medical officers, seemed to be very cheerful over the change from Trenthani. Wnilcanae is considered- ideal for camphig. Of all the men in camp fifteen men were laid aside with influenza and one with measles. These were taken to Mr H. R. Elders’ residence and accommodated with an oiderly in attendance. The measles case was taken kc- the hospital at Otaki and isolated. On Saturday during the rain the troops were billeted out in Waikauae by residents,* whose kindness was greatly appreciated.
Last evening a free social was bold at the Salvation Army Hall, and was enjoyed by all those present. Solos and recitations and instrumental items were given, and Adjutant. Cook, who presided, introduced Adjutant In wood, who was listened to most attentively. To-night Adjutant Inwood will give an interesting account of the South Sea Islands, the New Hebrides in particular, where he
spent some twelve months on special Salvation Army work. He will tel! of native customs and native forms of worship, promising to teach a native chorus and qlso to explain how the natives choose the “belle off the ball.” The Adjutant has a most pleasing and acceptable platform style, and is very interesting. There should be a good attendance thi^. .^^
