COMMONWEALTH’S GREAT TASK
(Rceived 9.30 a.m.) Melbourne, July 14
Mr Pearce announced that when the troops who were embarking arrive at the front Australia would have eighty thousand there. The total number of recruits is one hundred thousand ,and arrangements are being made to enable those recruits who are rejected on the grounds of medical unfitness to have remediable operations and obtain attendance preparatory to a second enlistment. 4
Mr Jensen stated that owing to the Imperial Government utilising a number of military transports in connection with the food supplies, it was anticipated ft ’wdfifd be; necessary to make further inroads into the inter-State fleet. At present tho Commonwealth had'’the third largest shipping fleet in the world under its control, numbering eighty-five vessels.
THE WORK OF EQUIPMENT..

The Commonwealth has on order the full equipment of 50,000 men, (exclusive of all units and reinforcements units completed or authorised long before the winter. Necessary arrangements have been made to meet the needs of the Australians in the held. (Received 10.30 a.m.) Hobart, July 14. Cecil Me Vi 11 y, winner of the 1913 Diamond Sculls at Henley has enlisted. Tasmania is commencing a recruiting campaign.
