KITCHENER'S APPEAL.
United Press Association. . London, July 8. Lord Kitchener says:—“ln every man’s life there is a supreme hour towards which all his earlier experience-’ move, and wherefrom all future results must be reckoned. That solemn hour is now striking for every Britop. Let us heed the opportunity, now or never; shirk nothing, shrink from nothing, and lend our full weight to the impetus which shall carry a victory for the cause of our honor and freedom,” Vast crowds fti the streets gave an ovation to Lord Kitchener as he was proceeding to the Guildhall. Many members of the Cabinet and politicians were on the platform.
THE WAR LOAN.
London, July 10
The City and Midland Bank and Lloyds Bank have eacah applied ior twenty-one millions, and the Louden County and Westminster Bank for twenty millions of the war loan.
Barclay’s Bank has subscribed twelve millions towards the war loan.
The Joint Stock Banks have decided to double their subscriptions to the November war loan, making for the new loan, roughly, two hundred million. It is estimated that the subscription will he at least seven hundred millions.
The Right Hon. R. McKenna announces the, result on Monday. Lord Michelam has subscribed Lloyds Bank have each applied for include: The Underground Railway £Boo,ooo,Midland Railway £1,125,000, White Star Line £350,000, Edwards’ Hospital Fund £105,000, Harrods’ Stores £BO,OOO, Yorkshire Miners £50.000, and Dockers’ Union £IO,OOO.
A POWDER EXPLOSION.
London, July 10
Two violent explosions occurred at a powder factory at Hounslow, as the workers were resuming after breakfast. One man was killed and several injured.
The explosives damaged the surrounding dwellings, and the vibrations were felt at Hampton Court and Twickenham .
