PATRIOTIC CATHOLIC SOCIAL.

The patriotic concert organised by local Catholics in aid of the Wounded and Sick was held last evening in the Town Hall, and proved a great success. The hall 'and stage was tastefully decorated with Hags and looked well. The floor was in good order, which was «tlie numerous dancers. The supper arrangements were in capable and generously hospitable hands and the quality and quantity was well up to :the standard. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs JBianchi (piano), and Mr Parker (cornet). The concert was very successful, but unfortunately several persons who had promised to contribute items did not-turn up. The following contributed items:— : Miss Kennedy, song, "Just -for Tonight" ; -Mr B. Malone, song, "A Sergeant of the Line" ; Mrs Massey. song; Mr E. G. Allen, sketches, "Faces we all 'Know" ; Mrs Halkett, song; Miss Sheehan, song, "Soldiers in the 'Park''; Air A. W. Wilson, original recitation, 'tHelp your Wounded Brother"; Miss Dolly Fitzgerald, song, "Somewhere a Voice is'Calling" ; Mr A. S. Maijtiu, "humorous selections ; Mr F. Dnnlop, song, "The Lowlands' Sea."

Special mention must he made -of Mr Wilson's recitation, i .which was composed by himself. The poem is well worded and exceedingly appropriate to-the times, and was .excellently recited. Mr Alltn's lightning sketches were good. Perhaps the best comic work seen in Stratford by amateurs was that of Mr Martin, whose rendering ,of "The Three .Foreigners" was excellent.

After the._ musical programme. the dancing commenced, and continued until the early hours of the mornijigEveryone seemed to enjoy themselves, .and on the whole it may be safely said that the "function was a great success, and reflects much credit on all concerned.

It is anticipated that a goodly sijm will be gathered , for the worthy object (of the entertainment,' oir which satisfactory result Messrs'<T. A. Lonergan (in preparing the musical items) and the capable hon .secretary, Mr Phil Brennan, are specially to lie congratulated;' - ■-•■■ *' l; - -"* ■ '*■■ V:>
