Dissension in the ranks of the Lyttelton Grocers’ Association has caused quite a flutter in business circles in that port, and one day the various establishments were placarded with signs informing the public that the prices of commodities had fallen, to a figure considerably below that previously ruling. One enterprising business man announced that the price of goods hooked would he the same as for cash. To the wage-earner with a large family the cuttihg*of prices came at a most opportune time, but the opinion is generally held that the disputing parties will soon come to terms.'
Tke treasurer of tlie British andBelgian Relief Fund desire to® acknowledge the usual monthly contribution of £2 10s from Mr S. H. Wicksteed. Also receipt of £5 and the .following letter from Mr T. Harry Feint; “I enclose a further contribution to the fund for the relief of the Belgian people. In our natural and laudable anxiety to provide- foj ; \oilr soldiers returning disabled, there appears to be some danger of slackened interest in the'fate-of the nation, hut for whose sacrifice at the beginning of the war hur own efforts would have had ! to have been doubled and trebled, with a far more remote prospect of success. That the necessities of the Belgians aVe as great, if not greater.'than ever, there is. unfortunately, no room to doubt.”
