A TOKO FUNCTION.

SALE OF BELGIAN FLAG.

CONCERT AND DANCE.

A patriotic concert and dance was held in the Coronation Hall, Toko, on Thursday evening, and proved a huge success. The weather conditions were not good, but there were fully 250 people present from all parts of the -district. Mr it. Gernhoefer (chairman), announced that the proceeds from concert and dance were in aid of the British and Belgian Relief Funds, At the conclusion of the concert there was an auction sale in aid of the sick and wounded fund of our New Zealand troops. Mr. C. Bayly gave the Belgian Flag; JaiWl which he purchased at last Saturday’s patriotic sale at Stratford, to the Pateriotic Committee. The bidding for this flag was very brisk, and realised the total sum of £l5O. It was finally knocked down to Mr Bayly for £26. A bouquet of violets presented by Mrs Alf. Bocock was also put up for sale, bringing in the sum of £6. Mr Evan Jones donated a goat, and it brought £l, and Mr Nairn a cattle dog, which realised £2 10s. Mr Fletcher (Stratford) conducted the sales in a very creditable manner. Special praise is due to Messrs Davey and Fletcher for the use of their cars on: this occasion for bringing the performers from Stratford. Miss Clare, actress, of Hugard Company, presented the committee with ;some French and Belgian colors, which were sold to the audience] bringing hi the sum of £1 4s.

It is expected the proceeds ifrom this function will reach the sum of £l9O. i

Song (comic) Mr Stewart, senr. (encored). Song, “Maybe,” Miss Tapp, of Wanganui. Comic song, “The Three Foreigners,” Mr Martin (encored). Song, “Angus McDonald,” M iss Maunsell. Song, “You’Ve got to sing in Ragtime,” Mr C. Todd. Song,, ■ “Down the Vale,” Miss Hadley) of Waitara (encored). Illuminated Chile Swinging, Lieutenant Gray, of Stratford (encored). Recitation. “Napoleon’s Tomb,” Mr Gillick. Comic song, “He’d Have to Get Under,” Mr Stewart (encored). Song, “I Hear You Calling,” Miss Herbert. Comic song. “YYou will Excuse me, Won’t You,” Mr Martin (encored). Song, “Just for ToAigiit,” Miss Tapp, of Wanganui). So ng, “Those Ragtime Melodies,” Messrs C. Todd and W. Stewart. Piano and violin duet, “Peerless I). Or,” Mr and Mrs Marsh. Trio, “Zealandia,” Misses : Maunsell. Hewsoii, and Jones. The accompaniments were played by Mr Pearson, Mrs Maunsell, Miss Bain and Miss Maxwell. About 90 couples indulged in dancing, the floor being excellent. The duties of M.C’s. were carried out by Messrs Gehihoefer and Kilpatrick. The music was the best ■ experienced in Toko, consisting of Mrs Bianclii (piano). Mr Parker (cornet), Mr Richardson (violin), and S. Bernard (drums). Mr and Mrs Marsh and Mr Pearson also played excellent music.

The secretary. Mr C. K. Boeoek, carried out liis duties as usual in a. Very satisfactory manner. The (unction was brought to a close at 3..50.
