The death of Mr Hailey. G veminent Hotanist in Queensland, is announced. Farrier-Sergeant W. E. Hawke, 'etc of Uruti, who was last week repo I<* 1 as being in the Pont do Kubbeh Hospital, Cairo, has cabled that he has been ill with pneumonia, and is now convalescent.
At the Romgn Catholic Church at Maiiaia on Wednesday, Mr 1). Ryan, eldest son of the late Mr John Ryan, was married to Miss Katie Franklin, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs M. Franklin.
Louis Hill, who has been reported as killed in action, was the only son of the late Fred Hill, formerly of Hawera. He was 28 years of age, and well-known in sporting circles.
He leaves two sisters—Mrs Fred Cooper, of Masterton, and Mrs J. Munro, of Napier.
John McMullen, a member of the 05th which participated in the Maori war, died at the Veterans’ Home, Auckland, on Monday. Ho arriv'd in New Zealand with his regiment in 1846. and took his discharge in 1865. Since then he had resided in Auckland.
