AMUSEMENTS.

H.M. THEATRE. An enjoyable budget of plays last night met with approval from the audience. The feature play, “Out of the Air,” proved a very sensational subject. One scene, in which an aviator descends from his aeroplane on to the top of a runaway train that he may save his sweetheart’s life who has been caught by the foot between a rail frog, is one that will never be lost to memory. Another thrilling portrayal is “The Hidden -Message,” a story of a girl’s grit and presence of mind. “The Topical Budget” shows the Maori contingent at Avondale. Other films are “The Girl at the Throttle” (drama), “A Hasty Elopement” (comedy), and two humorous comics, “He Wanted Chickens,” and “Cheap Transportation.” WINTER SHOW. The sixth annual winter Show of the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society is very near at hand. A visit to the secretary’s office and to the Coronation Hall cannot help but inform one of a successful Show T this year. All the necessary staging is completed and many of the machinery exhibitors are well forward with their stands. On looking through tire catalogue, one is interested to find such good competitions in many of the classes. Butter and cheese for competition is entered from all parts of New Zealand, and the same remarks apply to the poultry section. The home industries are very well filled. Field roots and other farmers’ produce in this year’s competition will prove the best yet seen at a Taranaki Show. The secretary wishes exhibitors in all classas except poultry to have them at the Coronation Hall not later than Tuesday night. Poultry exhibitors are asked to have their exhibits at the Hall not later than Wednesday night.
