OPERATIONS IN PERSIA. United Pmcbb Association. London, June 7. Official: British gunboats on the Tigris occupied Aniarah and took prisoner JO officers and 700 sailors. L'he total captures on the Tigris were 80 officers and 2000 men. The men captured comprise an advance guard of Turkish forces retreating to Persian territory before General Gornnge’s column. We also captured six field guns, seven naval guns on board the gunboat Marmariss, twelve large barges, three small river steamers, and much ammunition and rifles. Of six Germans accompanying the Turks, three were captured and the Arabs killed two.
Amarah, or Amara, is about 150 miles further up the river Tigris than Kunia which the British captured last week. Amarah has a population of about 10,000. The operations in this region which have proved very successful, are being conducted mostly by Indian and Naval forces.
