HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT.
r The High Commissioner reports as follows under date the 29th iust. : Meat.—The demand has fallen off considerably on account of the high prices, but the market is firm. Prices continue to advance owing to the short i supply available for the general public.
Mutton.—Canterbury North Island 6|d, ewes Gd. Lamb, Canterbury, BJd for all weights, second grade Bd, other than Canterbury B|d for best quality second grade 7|d.
Beef.—New Zealand beef is not quoted. There is a moderate supply of chilled. Hinds 81d, fores 6«d. Butter.—The market is quiet and prices may go lower. Danish 148 sto 150 s, New Zealand 142 s to 1445, Australian 138 s to 140 s, Siberian not quoted ; Irish Creamery (Government buying continues) 140$ to 1445, Argentine 138 s to 140 s.
Cheese—The market is very firm on account of the difficulty of obtaining supplies. Of Canadian, last season’s make is cleared, and this season’s is not available. For New Zealand the market is firm, and prices continue to advance. White and colored 98s to 100 s, United States clearing on arrival at 88a to 945, according to quality and size. English Cheddar is not quoted. Xlemp.—The market is quiet, the tendency being in favor of buyers. New Zealand good-fair grade £32 10s, fair £3l 10s, fair current Manila £39.
Wheat.—The market is becoming more depressed on account of the very moderate demand, prices being normal.
Oats.—X’he marftet is dull, there being very little business doing.
