PRICE OF FOODSTUFFS.
At a large meeting of the New Plymouth branch! of the IGigine-drivers, j Firemen and Cleaners’ Association the following resolution wafi unanimously carried: “That this meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the Fpginoil rivers, Firemen and Cleaners’ Assol elation desires to call the attention of ; the Government to the unreasonable j charges that are now being made for the necessaries of life. A\ e regard 1 this proceeding as an unjust imposij rion, pressing heavily oh the poorest, I and consider that a national crisis is 1 being used by Hour-millers and meri chants throughout the country for priI rate enrichment. Wo also deplore the inactivity of the Government in allowing such exploitation to take place, and we further call upon the Government to use legislative means to fix the maximum price for all common. necessaries, and protect the country from further exploitation.”
