HER CLAIMS IN BESSARABIA.
(Received 9 a.m.) Amsterdam, May 26
The Frankfurter Zeitung, discussing Roumania's position, says it has reason to believe Germany and Austria perfectly about Roumania's claims in Bessarabia.
Bessarabia, a frontier and government of Russia, lies on the Black Sea between the northern mouth of the Danube and the Dniester, to the north-east of Roumauia. It has an area of 14,577 squre miles. It was conquered by the Turks from the Goths and Huns in 1484. In 1812 it was ceded by Turkey to Russia. By the Paris Convention of 1856, a portion of the old province was cecleu to Turkey. The Austrians recently despatched an expedition to Bessarabia to divert part of the Russian Army, but after suffering a sharp check, they gave up the attempt.
