London, May 26
The Petrograd correspondent of the London Daily News says: The battle on the San is developing into the fiercest of the war. Three million are attacking and counter-attacking daily along the entire front. The Kaiser is personally directing operations. A great flock of German aeroplanes are taking part, and the Russians shot four airmen. General Von Himlenburg states that tlio stupendous slaughter is. due to the solid phalanges which the Kaiser ordered to cross the river north of Jaroslav. The Germans hold only twenty miles between Opatoff and Kalomea. They have been fastened to the right bank owing to the Russian successes above and below them. ' The Germans are moving in close order like the troops of ancient Homo. The San is flooded with German blood.
