ARBITRATION COURT VIEW. SJNITRD Psiwa Abhooutios. (Received 8.25 a.m.) Sydney, May 26.
At the Arbitration Court, Justice Heydon, dealing with the application of the Railway Engineers and Firemen's Association for increased wages, referred to the rule of the Court that applications to impose additional burdens on the community were not to be made by public servants, but the present exception was made under special circumstances. He had come to the conclusion that the present condition of the community no longer supplied sufficient reason for continuing the rule. The effect of the war on the financial and economic position of individual members of the community did not appear to be as great as was feared. Trade was returning and the pastoral and agricultural outlook was bright, and in spite of the fact that there were so many other calls, record Belgian and Hospital Day collections were made.
