WHAT STRATFORD IS DOING.
[iu ibh Editor Stkatfoho Post.] Sir,—-Re Mr Skoglund’s criticism of Stratford’s methods of raising money and recruits. Readers outside Stratford will naturally think that Stratford is not doing its share, which is quite wrong. I think Stratford has done, and is doing, as well as any town and district of its size in the Dominion, and if this is done without resorting to patriotic demonstrations, etc., so much the better. Mr Skoglund is secretary for the local Belgian Relief Fund, and has not found it necessary to adopt the methods he suggests, so that his remarks are not quite fair. If our moneyed men could only he induced to contribute more liberally (and we have a few who could better afford £IOOO than Mr Skoglund andmyself could £1), there would he no need for demonstrations of any kind, but look at the lists, and with a few exceptions, you will see these men contributing a paltry £5 or £lO. The people who can least afford it are the ones contributing the best. With regard to recruiting.—Your footnote adequately answers the inference to bo taken from Mr Skoglund’s remarks, viz., that Stratford district is not doing its share, and I might add that 1 don’t think our men wish a fuss to be made over them for volunteering for the front.—l am, etc., J. W. McMTLLAN. Stratford, 22nd May, 1910,
