u tin l suggestion ol and hy arrangement with Professor Kirk, of the Department of Agriculture, the committee lias decided to provide space in the produce hall for fruit-grading and packing demonstrations, also competitions. The competitions will he held on tlie 2nd and 3rd days, and will he open to all-comers with first and second prizes of tl Is and 10s (id. The Department's packers will act a.s judges, and prize-winners on first day will not he eligible to compete on* the second day. Tliis is quite a new departure, hut it is. in the right direction, tending as it should towards the improvement ol the grading and packing of fruit. There is no doubt that the magnificent displays ol apples staged at the National Dairy Show are not even approached in the Dominion.
