A fugitive from Trieste reports that the insurgents blew up two magazines and attacked the Palace and other Government buildings. They looted shops and erected barricades. 'lhe fleet is ready to bombard the city. \ (Received 9.55 a.m.) Rome, May 18. The Giornale d’ltalia, in a significant article, remarks that war has virtually been declared by the unanimity of King, Government and Nation. Italy is about to fight lor the liberation of Italian provinces now under a foreign rule and lor civilisation. CIOLITTI’S STATEMENT. London, May 18. A Romo message states that Signor Giolitti will make a public statement that he believes it is possible to obtain from Austria concessions sufficient to avert war, but once war is inevitable he will support the Cabinet. The Austrian Consulates have notified their countrymen to ho ready to leave at a moment’s notice. Many have already departed. Copenhagen, May 18. Official circles consider war with Italy is inevitable.
