NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW, 1915.
Lovers of the old English sport of hunting, particularly those who are participants, are reminded that the [above named event provides two most interesting items for their pleasure and encouragement. These are maiden and open hunters’ competitions. Prize money to the value of £35 is offered for two events, together with the Collinson and Cunninghame Cup, value 30 guineas, in the open hunters as an additional incentive. To keep matters lively between the big jumps the' Manawatu Hunt Club has arranged to give a display with the pack under the direction of the master. A very good point, and one which adds to the interest, is a condition that competitors in the open hunters shall wear full hunting costume. These two items are timed for Thursday, the third day of the show. A variation is provided for the last day in the shape of pony leaping, bending competitions, potato race on horseback, winding up with a quite new event, vi saddle, walk and trot competition for ponies. This is entirely novel in Palmerston North. The prize money allotted is £9. The conditions attached are that the pony must not be more than 14.2 hands. No ambling allowed. Ride round the ring once at a walk and trot and turn completely round before re-starting. Between this and the potato race the fun should be fast and furious. The rising generation of sports are certainly well catered for. All particulars may be had from the secretary and entries close on the sth June.
