Tho Midhirst Town Hall Board are holding a euchre party and dance next Wednesday evening.
Clark McConochy, the champion billiard player, is to play an exhibition match in Mr W. H. KellyV .wellknown billiard room, Broadway, Stratford, on Tuesday evening next.
The annual general meeting of the Stratford Plunket Society is to be held in the Parish Hall on Monday next. Members and others interested in the Society's work are invited to be present.
At the Pahiatua Farmers' Union concert last night, a handsome stag's head, which was donated by Mr Hugh Mackay, was auctioned for the Belgian fund by Mr 0. C. Cooper, and realised £520, states the Press Association. The amount' carries a Government subsidy.
The following is a copy of a cablegram received by the Governor from the Secretary of .State for the Colonies:—"lt is His Majesty's wish that on this occasion of His Majesty's birthday this year flags should be flown, but no dinners, reviews, salutes oi' other celebrations should take place."
At the W.C.T.TJ. meeting yesterday afternoon it was resolved to form a "Dorcas Society" for the purpose of making garments for the distressed victims of the war". Material or financial help will ho very acceptable. A sewing machine is needed. Communications may be addressed to Mrs Reeve, President W.C.T.TJ., Broadway South, or to Mrs McAllister, secretary W.C.T.U.. Broadway.
Tlie Board of Control of the Sow Zealand Sports Protection League lias, in view of the prominence given in the newspapers to the increased direct taxation on sports, asked the branches of the league throughout the Dominion to resist any such special

A meeting of the Executive Committee appointed in connection with the proposed co-operative meat freezing works was held at, Lnglewood yesterday morning. Reports were received as to the number of shares applied for. and it was resolved:—''That
as there has not been a sufficient number of shares applied for this meeting he adjourned to this day fortnight, in order that the delegates may make a special canvass of their districts for further .shares.
At a meeting of the Toko Settlers' Picnic and Sports Association, held on Thursday evening, it was unanimously decided to hold a patriotic concert and dance on 2-l.tll June next, the proceeds to he handed over to the British and Belgium Relief Funds. It was also decided to donate £26, the net profits of this year's sports, to the same hind, which amount will he handed over to the secretary in the course of a lew days.
