Italy.
THE POSITION REVIEWED.
Times and Sydney St/n Sekvioe (Received 8.0 a.m.) London, May 6.
The Times' military correspondent says that since the war Italy has had time to provide an outfit of war materials, especially field artillery, in which she was deficient, and probably have her reserves developed, her defence in the north being now complete. Her approximate war strength is over one million. The army should commence operations in the north under extraordinarily favorable conditions, and it is reasonably hoped that a summer campaign will realise the Italian aspirations. If strictly limited to the acquisition of Trentino and Trieste, we may expect a developing attack on the former, and an advance across Shonzo, which will lie supported by the Navy ; as an alternative course, a blockade of the Trentino with a great decision on the Hungarian plain and a landing in the Gulf of Fiume is frequently discussed. Whatever strategy may le adopted, the menace to the Tyrol must mean an advanced development of the 'great Italian army against Austria.
