MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
Patea.—For the mayoralty C. A. Larcombe' was elected unopposed. For the nine seats in the Council the result of the contest was Dr. Simmons 211. 'Messrs A. Christensen 222, F. \V Grainger 2115. F. llamsbottom 202, 15. T. Bennett 201, L. W. May 194. C. R. Honey lie Id 191, W. Beardmore 187. and T. Hicks 107 were elected. Christcb.urch.- —Mayoralty : Holland 4591, Spiers (Social Democrat) 8947, Sorensen 3634.
Eltham. —Tbe following were elected to the Council: Messrs («. M. layler, J. Phillips, J. Ballantine, L. Hill, F. Ainoore, K. C. D. Lightbourne, M. j\. Whiteford, H. 11. Judd and IV. J. Tristram. HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION. Wellington.—For Saturday 8(70, for Wedneslay 8305, majority 465. Dnnelin.—Saturday 10,343, Wedneslay 9128, majority in favour of Saturday 1215. Whangarei.—The Saturday half-holi-day, proposed for the first time at Whangarei, was defeated by 514 votes against 251. Waitara.—The weekly half-holiday poll at Waitara resulted in 181 votes being cast for Saturday and 74 for Thursday, Saturday being thus carried bv 107 votes.
