Corkill pleaded gliiity, but said he had not been absent from tbn parades as the Lieutenant Had said, having arrived late at parade, aiid did not get his name on the roll.—His Worship said that was no excuse. Accused could not give any excuse for missing the parades mentioned in the charge, and he would be lined £2 (costs 7s). G. H. Hignett, bad not, it was stated, reported himself for three inbhths after Coming to work in Stratford. He bad not attended parades from December till March 24. The accused said be had volunteered for the front, and was not accepted. He had been exempted before be started work here. Mr Ken rick said that heed use acidised had not been able to go to the front it was ho reason wily be should leave off drill, “If you attended drill it would have made you physically fit.” He had done practically no drill during the year, and it was. a pity* that it was not in his (Mr Kenrick’s) power to send him to military detention. He was fined £4 with costs 7s, or twentyeight days miliary custody. C. E. Neal (for whom Mr R. Spence appeared) pleaded that on one occasion he was late for drill, having been out to the Opiiiiake Races, and did nht announce himself to the officer.— Lieut. Grey said that Neal had attended camp, but had missed eleven drills since December. A line of £2 with 7s costs Was imposed, in default fourteen days military custody.
