THE WILLIAM FRYE CASE, United Pbess Association Washington, April 29. * The United States despatched another Note to Germany, agreeing to accept 'compensation for the sinking of the William Frye on the basis of the German offer uiqier the terms of the Pru'ssian-Americau Treaties of 1799 and IS2S. The United States reiterates its protest against the destruction of the ship, repeating that its cargo was n,ot contraband. FREEDOM OF SPEECH. PROFESSOR TAKES THE HUFF. New York, April 29. Professor Lawrence Lowell, president of Harvard University, replying to Professor Kmio Myers’ resignation of the Exchange Professorship because Harvard University was awarded the prize for a poem, in which Germany was denounced, asserts that neither professors nor students of any American University were limited in their freedom of speech. This was the only course consistent with the principle of academic freedom. Professor Lowell hoped that all German professors would recognise this.
