SHALL BELGIUM STARVE?
APPALLING PLSGHT OF OUR BROTHER BELGIANS. DESPERATE APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE. United Pkesb Association. (Received 8.45 a.m.) London, April 25. The 'National Committee ofßelief in Belgium is appealing for half a million sterling worth to keep body and soul together among the utterly destitute. M. Hoover Francqui, chairman of the Commission, at Brussels, writes: — "Unless Ave get more assistance, hundreds of thousands of the seven million people of Belgium will starve. At least one million and a-lialf Belgians are now entirely destitute. With the rapid exhaustion of the meat and vegetable supplies, probably before harvest time there will be two million five hundred thousand who must be fed and clothed entirely out of charity. The remaining four million five hundred thousand will get a pitiful daily allowance of bread through the Commission, and will have to pay for it.
