Mr. Edward Gosohen’s son, Gerard, Sir Edward Grey’s cousin, Robin Grey, Aviator Albemarle’s son Rupert, and Lieutenant Paxton (former attache at Vienna) are among the,' thirty-nine who have been reprisaled. PATRIOTIC MEETING AT GUILDHALL ON MAY 19. (Received 9.10 a.m.) London, April 25. Mr Asquith (Premier), Mr Bonar Law, Lord Crewe, Mr L. V. Harcourt (Colonial Secretary), and the High Commissioners will address a patriotic meeting in the Guildhall on 19th May. “OTHER CHEEK” POLICY. AN INVASION THAT DID NOT EVENTUATE. (Received 9.10 a.m.) London, April 25. Jage, speaking at Scarborough, explained a recent reference to the Navy, saying that shortly before the war, when the manoeuvres were progressing, some of the .members of the Cabinet wished the Fleet to be dispersed, with a view to turning the other check to Germany. Mr Churchill, therefore, threatened to resign. A compromise was effected, the fleet going in different directions, and then reassembling elsewhere.
A fact only known to the Admiralty was that Germany, in the early stage of the war. had 100,000 troops in transports, intending to land on the east coast. Indeed, they were already at sea, when, discovering that the British were awaiting them, rushed hack to harbor.
