TOKO'S TRIBUTE. (By R.D.M.) Quite a painful shock passed through the district when the sad news cl the late Trevor Mar fell’s tragic death became known—-all the more so as he only left his parents’ home (where ho had been spending a few days) by the evening train on Thursday to return to their farm in the Whangajnoniona district. The deceased was horn iu New Plymouth, where his parents resided for many years, and spent his school days at the Central School, coming to Toko with in’s father when the latter purchased ids Toko Head property from the late Waiter Byrnes, Esq., about fifteen years ago. Remaining at homo lor several years, he then went hack to the farm at Westown, and in conjunction with his eldest brother, Mr Harry Marfell, resided there up till about eighteen months ago, when he took up the Whangamomona property in partnership with ids brother Frank, and their brother Manby, who is now serving his King and country with the main Kxpcditiouary Force, acquiring tlie adjoining section. Of the hardy yeomanry type, with plenty of grit and

sound constitution, ho was the ideal stamp of the young Colonial out-hack settler. As a footballer, lie was one of the best forwards in the Toko Club last season. With a quiet, unassuming, yet kindly disposition, “Trev” was held in the .highest esteem iby all his olid) companions and friends, and in all his actions, both on and off the field be always acted in a fair and honorable spirit. The funeral was one of the longest seen in the district. ’ and the great number of beautiful wreaths sent from far and near was a striking testimony of the sympathy shown to the family in their hour of grief. A very large crowd was present at the graveside to pay their silent tributes to the memory of a good Christian and a thorough gentleman. The Toko Football Club forwarded a resolution of sympathy to the -M a riel I family, and as a mark of respect decided to postpone all practice matches until the Ist prox.
