RIFLE SHOOTING.

'CADET shooting IN NO. 8 CROUP | The second annual shoot of cadets in No. 8 group, inaugurated by the Inglewood Senior Cadets, was held ou Thursday at Inglewood. There were fifty cadets present. New Plymouth, Waitara, Stratford and Eltham being well represented. The attendance was not so good as last year, which was probably due to the fact that the Railway Department did not issue tree passes. The meeting was a complete success, the lads getting their shooting off promptly. The range was in charge of Lieutenant Crutch, who was ably assisted by Lieutenant Humphrey and Sergeant-Major Hesp, Lieutenant Kennedy being in charge of the | trendies. Color-Sergeant Instructor Sutherland (secretary), attended to hi . various duties with courtesy and despatch. On the whole, the shooting was not up to last year’s standard, in the morning, when, good conditions prevailed, two or three possibles were registered, but a varying cross-wind baffled many of the competitors in the afternoon. The shooting being fairly close, shoot-offs were necessary in some eases. In the grand aggregates Sergeant Lneenu and Private Lucena, of the New Plymouth High School, tied with 86 points. New Plymouth High School again won the shield match by a good margin. There was a good, attendance of spectators in the afternoon. In presenting the medals. Major MeNanght said the boys had put up a good performance in not too favorable weather. He did not believe in' half a dozen members of a company being good shots, but preferred that all should be fair shots.. Detailed results ; Grouping, at 2o yards.
