“BROOM” FOR AN ADMIRAL

To mark their . appreciation of Sir John Jollicoe’s efforts to keep tiie sens open for British trade, the inhabitants of the small town of Butterworth, in the Capo Province, have presented him with a silver broom, moansnring 2ft. Gin., inscribed:— Presented to Admiral Jellicoe for his abilities in sweepingtin' North Sea, 191-1. ■ On a label attached to the broom were the words “as usual.” An appreciative acknowledgement has been received from Admiral Jellicoe, in which he states that the one hope of the navy is to succeed in keeping that command of the sea which will enable British trade to hi' carried on “as usual.”
