Tait’s, the well-known theatrical entrepeneurs, have arranged a band of twenty-four Belgians from Antwerp, Brussels, and Osteud, under Conductor Philippe Meny, to tour Australia and New Zealand. The company which, has also some leading Belgian operatic artists, sail by the Medina. ST. GEORGE’S DAY. (Received 9.50 a.m.) London, April 23. At St. George’s service in the Chapel of St. Michael and St. George, at St. Paul’s Cathedral, the members included Lord Islington and Sir George Reid. Many attended in khaki. FUNERAL OF LIEUTENANT GLADSTONE. (Received 8.35 a.m.) London, April 23. Lieutenant Gladstone (grandson of the late W. E. Gladstone) was interred at Ha warden to-day, when there was a large concourse. (A message on the 19th iust. stated that Lieutenant Gladstone was shot in the forehead while trying to locate a sniper in France.) COAL MINERS AND THE PREMIER. (Received J.lo p.m.) London, April 23. The Premier conferred with tile executive of the miners’ federation. The latter claim a joint conference of owners and miners. The federation conference adjourned till Monday, alien it will consider the Premier’s reply, which is promised for that day.
