The situation was saved by. the fact that a few hundred yards before reaching Bhiaidng the express had to slow down to five miles in order to cross a bridge winch was being reconstructed, and. the cool promptitude of the driver in applying the brakes. According to custom 'the Te'mora train should ftaVe been on a siding which, however, was occupied by a goods train, and the Temora train was standing at the platform. The express was supposed to pass between the trains. It is stated that the express had the signal "all clear," but this is uncertain.

A feature of the State's quarterly banking averages is the unprecedented deposits and increase of cash holdings, and this, despite the war-, the bad season, and the large quantity of unsold wool. The financial position is generally considered to be remarkably good.
