KILLED ON THE RAILWAY. Peb Press Association. Wellington, April l(i. The police received word to-night that after the departure of the 7.15 train from Paekakariki for Palmerston North tJie body of a man was found on the line. No details of the man’s identity, or how the accident occurred, have been received. The police have gone out to Paekakariki to investigate. Wellington, April 17 The body of a man killed on the railway at Paekakariki last night has been identified As that of Charles Thus Boulton, who was a well-known settler of Pohautanui. FOUND IN THE RIVER. Wanganui, April 16. The body of a maig so far unindentifiecl. was found floating in the river this afternoon. The body is that of a man of thirty-five years of ago; sft. 7in. tall, and of medium build; dark hair, slightly bald; wearing dark clothes. Later. The body of the man found in the river yesterday has been identidefi as Edward Challoner, whose previous movements are unknown.
FATA I- EXPERIMENT WITH CARBIDE, Palliating April 10. A shocking fatal accident occurred at Pahiatua to-day. Fred Hedges, aged 20 years, the eldest son of Mr F. Hedges, jeweller, a young man of an experimental turn of mind, had improvised a small carbide gasometer in his bedroom at his parents’ residence. Just before dinner lie was, it is thought, apparently inspecting it, and an explosion occurred, Hedges receiving the lull force In the laeo. He sustained injuries to the face, eyes, and head, lie was removed to the hospital in an unconscious condition, and succumbed two hours later. The mother of the young man, with two members <>i tin- family, is at present on a visit to Auckland. INFANT'S DEATH FROM BURNS. Auckland, April I”. A girl, one-year-old daughter of Dacre, a carpenter, of Helonsvillc, was badly burned by overturning a spirit lamp alongside her bed. and died from the injuries.
