CARPATHIANS CAMPAIGN. United Peebh Association. Paris. April 13. Le Temps says 'that the eighty days’ battle in the Carpathians lias ended in the Russians advancing along their eighty-miles front to within three days’ march of the Hungarian plain.. The enemy’s resistance was extremely stubborn, especially where the Hungarians were defending heights, but the daily loss was enormous and the reinforcements insufficient. Now the armies of Generals Borerovich and Bemerroli bud their communications imperilled by the Russians between Strogko. Snolnik, and Volossate, and they must retreat. The fourth army of Archduke Joseph Ferdinand, which is north of the Carpathians, and General Lintzinger, before Kozlovt, are imperilled, and must bring their fronts into line with that of General Borerovich.
BATTLE OF USZOK PASS.
Petrograd, April 13
Official; A violent battle is now developing in the region of Uszok Pass, which the enemy holds. The Austrian army has been largely reinforced at Stry, and is threatening the Russian left flank, thereby assisting their attack on Rostock and Uszok.
(Uszok Pass is the key of the Carpathians. The pass secured, the way to the Hungarian Plains will he open.) THE AUSTRO-CERMAN FORCES OPPOSING RUSSIA. KAISER ADVISES OPERATIONS. (Received 10.15 a.m.) Petrograd, April 13. The Bourse Gazette says that bve independent Austrian armies under Generals Weirsch, Borerovich, Bemermoli, Panazer, and Prince Eugene Frederick, and seven German army corps under General Pintginger are opposing the Russians in the Carpathians. It is believed the Kaiser is in the rear of the Austro-German lines, advising operations.
