The Labor Conference threw out a motion on the Government failure to abolish the Upper House by 73 votes to 38. Mr Holman (Premier) expalined that before anything was done with the Upper House, the Government had to consolidate the position of the Lower House, and but for the Jpir, measures would have been taken. Hr Milne, British trade commissioner, ha* cabled to ]\lr Tudor urging that when reconsideration is being given to tariff preference, that it bo extended to Britain. Mr Tudor promised to consider the matter. MISCELLANEOUS. Sydney, April 9. At the Labor Conference last night the motion condemning the Government was reconsidered, and eventually negatived by 73 to 68. An amendment that the Government is deserving of the severest censure for allowing workers to suffer in this crisis was negatived by 76 to 51. Owing to the scarcity of wheat three city flour mills have closed and a fourth is on short time. It is hoped the stoppage is only temporary.
