empire trade league,

An Empire Trade League was formed to-day at a public meeting, and a constitution was adopted. Speakers included the Mayor and Mr Myers, M.P. Telegrams expressing sympathy with the movement were received from the Premier and Sir Joseph Ward.
NATIVE INTERPRETER’S ARREST

John P. Sheridan, a native interpreter. has been arrested on a charge ■of having forged the name of P. Earle to a cheque for £ls, drawn on the law trust account of the New Zealand Government, -And having caused Harry Lloyd to cash it.
THE LAKE COLERIDGE SCHEME.
Christchurch, March 30
The Public Works Department has informed the municipal authorities that after Sunday next electric current from Lake Coleridge installation wil be available continuously.
THE MARAMA MISHAP.
Wellington, March 30
A magisterial inquiry will be held in Wellington at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow regarding the stranding of the Marama off San Francisco on January 29 last. A preliminary inquiry was held by thp, Sydney Navigation Department, who cabled its opinion that there should be a magisterial inquiry in New Zealand. The vessel is due at Wellington to-morrow, and the inquiry has been arranged in consequence of the message from Sydney. The presiding Magistrate will be Mr W. G. Riddell, and the assessors Captain W. P. Read, of Auckland, and Captain C. F. Post, of the Government steamer Tutanebai,
RURAL WORKERS’ ORGANISATION. )
Wellington, March 30. A Labour Committee has been established in connection with the organisation of farm laborers throughout the Dominion styled the Rural Workers’ Organisation Committee. The personnel, which consists of wellknown Labor officials, is as follows: —Welligton, Messrs W. C. Noot (president), J. G. Bruce, A. Parlane, M. Whalen, M. Laracy, L. M. A. Reardon, D. Moriarty; Christchurch, Messrs F. E. Ellis, J. Cooper, E. Kennedy, Hiram Hunter, William Boone, F. R. Smith; Waimate, Messrs A. Cook, J. Smith, R. Eddy; Tiinaru, Mr A. J. King; Oamaru, Mr W. Johqstoue; Dunedin,,. Messrs J. McAllan and S. Boreham; Gore, Mr A. J. Middlemiss; Masterton, Messrs A. McLeod and J. A. Nicholson ; Invercargill, Messrs T. Obyrne and J. Aikweiller; Auckland, Messrs A. Rosser, T. Long and T. Okaue. Business will be transacted through correspondence in order to save the expense of meetings and conferences, as it is thought that the expenditure incurred may he used more effectively for organising purposes.
