SOUNDNESS AND STRENGTH OF INDIAN FINANCE. PERSIA SUFFERS FROM TURKISH 1 MISRULE. United Press Association. (Received 9.5 a.m.) • Delhi, March 2G. Concluding the financial debate in the Imperial Legislative Council, the Viceroy said the Finance Minister's jreview shows convincingly the inherent soundness and strength of the Indian financial position. The country had undertaken heavy financial responsibilities, but after eight months of war these were fully discharged, and they were prepared for further burdens. There was every sign of an unusually large surplus being available for export.
Referring to his recent visit to the Persian Gulf, the ..Viceroy stated that the province of Basrah had immense potentialities, which had greatly suffered under Turkish misrule. At small expense the city of Basrah could hecome the port of exit for all the trade in Mesopotamia and Northern Persia.
