RANCITIKEI MEETING. I (Notes by Cicero.) i Tbc Eangitikei Racing Club’s Annual meeting opens to-morrow. Ibo acceptances are very good, and as “form” is well exposed, winners should not lie difficult to pick. Six only paid up for the opening event, the Scott .Memorial, liieuru (840) is not overburdened when one considers the class opposing her, and the brown mare will possibly start favourite. A very moderate Lot figure in the Trial Handicap. Coropett showed pace at Opunake, and with Black Ada should divide favouritism. Of the nine acceptors for the Ohnkea Hurdles, Nampatu stands out prominently. Considering the prize money offered, the Cup has drawn a remarkably good class of horse. Ararat won at Wanganui like a racehorse, and may meet with most opposition from St. Alba. Sylvan Dale ran well at Masterton, and should start favourite for the Pukenui Welter. Martyress may have to shoulder a fe t w pounds extra, as she is liable to a re-handicap, for a win at Masterton, but despite this, should give New York a good race in the Carnarvon Hack. Eatana is galloping remarkably well on the track, but may not he forward enough to beat a seasoned horse like Austin. The first day’s racing will close with the Ngatiapa Hack. Martlet was voted unlucky not to win at Masterton, but in King Cliira; she will be meeting something better than any which saddled up in the Hack races at Masterton. GENERAL JOTTINGS. The connections behind Lord Multifed made arrangements to back that equine at Moonee Valley last Saturday. As no word was received per cable re his winning* we may presume that Taranaki’s latest equine bubble has burst. Sir Moseley, who died at Hawera on Sunday, cost her owner just on £IOOO. i be only return Mr Gillies received being two small races, one each at Wan. ffanui and Taranaki. Tlie bay horse was bad only an hour, and not a whole day, as has teen stated. The locally-owned Martingale was hurt while being shunted on a side line at the Creation! station on Monday, but is much improved to-day. The shaking up received will greatly minimise the marc’s chances, even if she is well enough to start to-morrow. Taking the double charts as a guide, Croesus can not get beaten in the Great Faster at Eiccartou. Certainly, on public form, it will take something exceptionally good to bring about his undoing. A Melbourne cablegram leports the death of Mr T. Uphill, the well-1 mown horse owner.
