A WAY-BACK GRIEVANCE.

WANTED, A ROAD. 1 At the meeting of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce on Thursday night the following petition was presented : “Mangare Road, Whangamomona, “February 3rd, 1915. “The Stratford Chamber of Commerce, “Stratford. “We, the.undersigned settlers, hereby enlist your assistance in an endeavour to obtain access to Whangamomona, via the Rerekino and Mangaere Roads, by means of a formed dray roadThe settlers on the Rerekino Road at present have no access to Whangamomona, their nearest railway station being Waitara, a distance of from 30 to 34 miles. These tracks are not yet connected up, it being necessary to form about 21 miles of track along the Waitara River. If this were done it would bring the settlers on the Rerekino Road within 13 miles of a railway, and would give them better access to the stock markets. Many of the settlers on the above mentioned roads have been on their land for about nine years, and still have a very poor bridle track to contend with, which greatly I handicaps them in developing their 1 holdings, owing to the excessive cost of getting in supplies and sending wool and stock out.’’ The following are the names and addresses of settlers interested C. A. Saward, Mangaere Road, Whanga; I). Mcßean, Makino Road; Storey and Leigh. Makino Road; Revell and Owen, Rerekino Road; E. -1. Wilton, Rerekino Road; C. 11. and W. Larsen, Rerekino Road; A. A. Dagg, Waitara Valley Road; W. H. Warbridge, Mangaere Road; W. H. WarMangaro Road; F. Neilson ; H. It. Marsh, C. F. Marsh, W. C. Fletcher.” In the aggregate, the holdings of the above petitioners represent 10,377 acres.
