ST. PATRICK’S SOCIAL.

AN ENJOYABLE EVENING-

The social held in the Town Hall last; night by the Catholics of Stratford am! district proved a great success despite, the bad weather, and a large audience spent an extremely enjoyable evening. The numerous vocal items were excellent and were well received, and a long programme of dances was gone through, the floor being in good condition. During the evening a substantial, but enticing supper was supplied. The opening chorus was “All Praise to St. Patrick,” rendered with good effect by a number of mixed voices. Mrs Massey sang “Killarney” with won-, dorful effect, the singer excelling herself in this appropriate and much-loved song ,and she received an encore. The same singer rendered “Heaps of Lickins” and “Poppies,” for which she was also recalled. A very good item was the singing of “Sweet Vale of Avoca” by Miss Dolly Fitzgerald, with violin accompaniment by Miss Stacia Fitzgerald, and another sister, Miss Winnie, at the piano. Miss Dolly received a decidedly complimentary reception on making her debut on the public platform, and it appears certain her vocal efforts will be heard of in the, future. Mr J. H. Thompson sang the evergreen “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary,” •with violin obligato by Mr 11. Cottier, the audience joining heartily in the chorus, and the vocalist received an encore. Mr Lonergan raised a hearty laugh by his rendering of “The Ballymoney Conversazione,” for which he was recalled. Miss' Kennedy sang “Colleen Bawn,” and was encored, as was also Miss A. Sullivan for her rendering of “An Emblem.” Mr B. Davis was very good in his singing of an Irish song, for which he was recalled. Other soloists were Mr T. Wilson (“Veteran’s Song”), Mr Maroney (“The Deathless Army”), Mr Bradley (comic item), and Mr Foley (“The Rose of Tralee/. The accompanists were Miss W. Fitzgerald and Miss A .Robson. The social concluded about 2 a.ra.
